  1. I bought this auger for a purpose it was not designed for – drilling deep holes. I have under the top soil something called “hard pan”, and that is accurate when it is really dry you have to use a pick ax. I need to install post for an electric fence and I could not drive them into the hard pan. The auger went right on thru the full length of the auger, and I was only use a battery powered 3/8″ drill motor.

  2. I bought this to help me dig holes in my backyard. The soil is clay like if you get below 12″. Also wanted to try for installing wood poles. I am using with a hammer drill. Results so far have been good. I was able to quickly dig a post hole – I was going slow and careful because I didn’t want to hit a sprinkler pipe or drain pipe (like I usually do with a shovel) – maybe works good at slow speed (with a hammer drill). I also made a hole for a Jasmine vine in the same area, no problems there. Your results may vary, but I’d recommend.

  3. It’s way better than I thought. So here’s the thing for everyone complaining it doesn’t hold to your drill chuck. It’s designed that way just like any spade or drill bit that is not rated for impact. If it was squares it has a high possibility of breaking your drill chuck teeth of worse burning your motor. As you can see it bored through rock, at the expense of a lot of battery power but it did it, just wanted to prove it could. I have a 20v DeWalt. And yes I used it to put up an entire fence, not for plants. 5 holes to every pole and the dirt comes up easy.
