The Quadrail Series Books 1–3

The Quadrail Series Books 1–3

Open Road Media. 2017

All aboard the Quadrail for three tales of nonstop action from the #1 New York Times–bestselling and Hugo Award–winning author of Star Wars: Thrawn. It is the Quadrail—a miracle of design that connects all twelve of the galaxy’s inhabited empires, allowing diverse alien species and cultures to exchange ideas, inspire imaginations, build bridges of understanding . . . and orchestrate the subjugation of all living things. Night Train to Rigel: Frank Compton used to be an operative for Western Allied Intelligence. Then he blew the whistle on some shady dealings and got himself fired. Nowadays he just wants to lay low and let someone else do the galaxy’s dirty work. Unfortunately, no one does dirty work quite like Frank. And the robotic alien Spiders who maintain the Quadrail know it—which...

Longwood Gardens

Longwood Gardens

Arcadia Publishing. 2017

Thirty miles west of Philadelphia in the historic Brandywine Valley of southeastern Pennsylvania blooms Longwood Gardens, one of the world's great horticultural centers. The original arboretum was planted beginning about 1800 by a Quaker family named Peirce. Industrialist Pierre Samuel du Pont (1870-1954) bought the property in 1906 to save its historic trees and make it a place where he could entertain his friends and the public. For three decades, he created an astounding collection of gardens, conservatories, and fountains and a perfect setting for the performing arts. Since du Pont's death in 1954, Longwood Gardens has continued to evolve from a private estate to a very public garden, with renowned designers creating new landscapes to enhance the enjoyment of more than a million...

  1. This fountain is very beautiful and has very low pump noise. Even at about 15 feet the splashing sounds are heard at a nice volume. No splashing as of yet (1 week). Lights are a great touch and make a pretty water scene on the wall in the dark.We put ours in a planter tray from home depot with some rocks from the back yard. Threw in some fake grass from Ikea.

  2. Oh, I wish I could rate it higher, because I love, love, LOVE this fountain. As others have noted, it has a great aesthetic, the paintjob is terrific, the sound is fantastic and the LED lights add so much. At night, they’re other-worldly. HOWEVER, as others have also mentioned, it splashes. For me, not much — very little, actually, but even a tiny bit is enough to ruin a tabletop in not much time. I did find a good solution, though. I went to the nursery and bought a nice 14″ ceramic pot liner, set the fountain in it and filled it with small stones. It actually has a terrific look, but we, the consumers, shouldn’t have to do that.

  3. This waterfall is even prettier in person than in its pictures. Not only is it beautiful but it is a good size and is made really well. I was shocked at how heavy it was. I’m so used to everything being made so cheaply. We just got it today and have had it running for quite some time. Unlike the other reviewers waterfalls ours is not splashing water outside of itself. Now you do have the ability to raise and lower the speed of the water which affects the volume of the waterfall and I would assume the splashing issue. We have ours in our bedroom and it’s on low and the waterfall is still pretty darn loud. When it comes to hearing the pump we can’t at all. We could at first but my husband put a wash rag under it temporarily and now we can’t hear it at all. We were hearing the vibrations of the waterfall on our dresser. We plan on going to the store and buying some felt adhesives for it. The ones like you would use for furniture not to scratch a floor. Although I personally would probably like a waterfall that’s a little softer of a sound, this bad boy delivers exactly what it says! I’m very impressed with it.

  4. These are beautiful and highly detailed.

  5. Very nice, I bought 6 for planters for Christmas gifts. I will say they are very fragile! Break and chip easily. They are very well crafted!

  6. This fairy figurine probably would have been enough to make my wife happy on her birthday – but the first time she saw the flowers light up with a pulsing glow in each “blossom” she was totally delighted. The figurine is beautifully crafted and is about 18” in height, with metal, detachable wings. A very nice addition to my wife’s collection, one I’m sure she treasures. The seller provided the figurine as promised, it was delivered well protected in styrofoam packing, and we’re very happy.
